According to Index the owner of Sofitel Budapest, Indotek Group, is planning a group redundancy of their staff ahead of a renovation. The company headed by Daniel Jellinek, that recently made headlines due to the bid to buy Budapest Airport, is said to make 30 percent of the 200-strong staff redundant. This all happens ahead of a renovation of the hotel that has been in place since 2019 when Indotek Group purchased it from Starwood Capital Group. The refurbishment works are to take place in three stages and are to be completed by 2022.
