With determination and a positive approach from the Polish state, it is realistic to introduce subsidies for the purchase of used electric cars for individuals in the second half of 2022, according to Maciej Mazur, Managing Director of the Polish Alternative Fuels Association (PSPA).

PSPA presented the idea of introducing subsidies to used electric vehicles at the beginning of October, during the New Mobility Congress in Łódź. It provides for PLN 9,000 surcharge for the purchase of an electric car not older than 4 years (PLN 13,000 for large family card holders) and not more than PLN 125,000.

"We treat this proposal as the first voice in the discussion, in which we want to include new stakeholders. We are, of course, open to changes and adapt the proposal to the market expectations and the state's capabilities. It cannot be ignored, however, that the passenger car market in Poland, especially among natural persons, is based on used vehicles. If electromobility is to be mass-produced in Poland, we must also support used vehicles, especially since much richer countries, such as Niemczy or the Netherlands, do it," said Mazur.

He stipulated that the introduction of subsidies to used vehicles would require statutory changes, because currently the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW), responsible for the "My Electrician" program, can only finance new cars.

"We are thinking about introducing a new program, analogous to 'My electrician', only intended for used vehicles. With full determination and a positive approach to this topic on the part of the state treasury, it would be realistic to launch such subsidies in the second half of 2022," added Mazur.

In his opinion, the PSPA proposal was received with interest, because the government community is aware that electromobility needs to be "massaged".

The Polish Alternative Fuels Association (PSPA) is the largest industry organization in Poland, dealing with the creation of the electromobility and alternative fuels market. The organization brings together over 120 companies from the entire value chain in electromobility. PSPA is part of The European Association for Electromobility (AVERE), the largest organization dealing with the development of the electromobility market in Europe.
