Karlovy Vary's management wants to keep the proceeds from the sale of the former Trocnov sanatorium in reserve and tie them to specific investments. The town will receive CZK 58.8 million for the hotel in the spa area. The sale was also approved by councillors at their last meeting. One of the reservations of the opposition was the fear that the funds will be dissolved in the operating expenses of the city, which is now struggling with an increase in expenses mainly due to energy prices.

"We do not have a specific project selected yet, but we expect to use it, for example, in the framework of cooperative housing. The point is that we want to use the funds obtained from the sale of the Trocnov hotel in a meaningful way for investment projects in our town," said Pfeffer Ferklová.

The sale of the former Trocnov spa sanatorium has been debated in Karlovy Vary for several years. According to the current management of the town hall, the building would need costly investments to be able to serve as a hotel again. The maintenance of the unused building alone costs the city hundreds of thousands of crowns.

Opposition Pirates in particular opposed the sale, saying the hotel is not in such bad condition that the investment in repairs and further renting would not be worthwhile. They also suggested that the sale should wait for a time when the real estate market will develop again and prices will be higher.

However, according to the mayor, because of its capacity for up to 45 guests, the hotel is mainly used as a depandence (an adjacent accommodation building) for hotels in the area. It was the operator of the neighbouring hotel who made the only offer to buy it. The final price remained at the asking price, i.e. CZK 58 million. The hotel's internal equipment was then valued at a further CZK 800,000.
