The third round of the auction of the Skloexport building in Liberec, which has been unused for years, started at 10:00 a.m. today, which means that at least one bidder had deposited the mandatory deposit of CZK 5.7 million by midnight on Monday. Michaela Tesarová, spokeswoman for the Office for State Representation in Property Matters, did not disclose how many bidders there were when asked. The price of the building was reduced by another CZK 10 million to CZK 57.01 million, but neither the Liberec Region nor the City of Liberec are among the bidders.

The authority first auctioned the building on 15 and 16 November last year with a starting price of over CZK 79 million. One bidder put down a deposit but failed to bid and the building was not sold. The second round of the auction on 20 and 21 December was similar, although the price was reduced to CZK 67 million. The third round ends on Wednesday at 10:00. According to the deputy mayor of Liberec, Adam Lenert (ANO), the price of the building is still too high despite repeated discounting.

The seven-storey building of Skloexport was built according to the project of architect František Vahala at the corner of Žitavská and 1. máje streets in 1928-1930 for the tax and customs administration. The famous exporter of Czech glass acquired it during the communist regime and the company went bankrupt in the second half of the 1990s. The state took over the building in 2001 and the last tenants left eight years later. The state has been trying unsuccessfully to sell the 9,357 sqm complex since 2008. According to estimates, it needs renovation for more than half a billion crowns.
