Tourists using overnight stays decreased by 27.8% y / y in Poland

The number of tourists using overnight stays in Poland decreased by 27.8% y / y to 5.3 million in the first half of 2021, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported. In the period from January to June this year, tourists were provided with 14.9 million overnight stays, which was less by 23.4% y / y. Compared to the first half of 2020, the occupancy rate of bed places also decreased from 23.8% to 19.9%.

5.3 million people stayed in tourist accommodation establishments in the first half of 2021, i.e. 27.8% less than in the corresponding period of last year. The smallest number of tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in January - 0.2 million and it was 90.7% less than in the corresponding period of 2020, and the highest in June - 2.3 million, i.e. more by 71.4% compared to June last year.

In the period January-June 2021 14.9 million nights were provided, ie 23.4% less than in the first half of last year.Almost half of the nights were spent in hotels - 7 million; tourists staying in spa establishments took , 6 million overnight stays were provided to tourists by holiday centers, GUS reported.

In the first half of this year. the occupancy rate of bed places amounted to 19.9% ​​and was lower than in the previous year by 3.9 percentage points. As in the previous periods, the best use was made of places in spa establishments - the occupancy rate of bed places amounted to 46.9%, but at the same time in these facilities a decrease of this indicator by 8 percentage points was recorded. Occupancy rate of bed places exceeding the national average was also recorded in summer camps - 32.1%, hostels - 27% and holiday centers
- 23.7%. In the remaining types of establishments, the occupancy rate of bed places ranged from 7% in camping sites to 18.5% in hotels, GUS also stated.

Among all tourists using overnight stays in the first half of this year, 92.2% were domestic tourists (4.9 million), while 7.8% were foreign tourists (0.4 million) and compared to the same period last year, it was less, respectively by 21.3% and 63.6%. Tourists from Europe predominated in the total number of foreign tourists - 365 thousand. (88.6%), with most people coming from Germany (108,000) and Ukraine (63,000), according to the report.

At the end of July 2021, 9,942 tourist accommodation establishments were operating in Poland, i.e. by 3.4% (349 establishments) less than in the previous year. Among those operating in July this year facilities, most were hotels (2,521), followed by guest rooms (2,007), other hotel facilities (957) and holiday resorts (947).

As of July 31 this year. 784,200 tourists were prepared for tourists bed places, including 224,100 seasonal bed places. Hotels had the greatest number of places - 296,800 and holiday centers - 117,800. Compared to the end of July 2020, the number of bed places increased by 1.1% (8.9 thousand), the Central Statistical Office also reported.

The data concerns tourist accommodation establishments with 10 or more beds.
