Global commodity trader Trafigura has begun construction on a €200 million wind farm in eastern Romania, marking a significant step towards expanding the country’s renewable energy capacity. The 99.2 MW wind farm, developed by Swedish company OX2, will be built by infrastructure firm CJR Renewables. OX2 sold the project to Trafigura at the planning stage.

“We are pleased to announce that CJR Renewables has been selected as the builder for this new wind farm in eastern Romania, in partnership with OX2,” stated CJR Renewables. “Construction will commence in the third quarter of 2024, with the park expected to be operational by the first half of 2026.”

The wind farm is projected to produce approximately 312 GWh of energy annually, sufficient to meet the electricity needs of 51,000 households. It will also reduce CO2 emissions by around 150,000 tons per year, contributing significantly to Romania’s sustainability goals.
