VSZ Olomouc is prosecuting eight people for participating in a criminal group after a raid in Brno
Today, in connection with Tuesday's police raid in Brno, the High Prosecutor's Office in Olomouc initiated criminal prosecution against eight people for participating in an organized criminal group, accepting bribes for the benefit of the group and for abuse of the authority of an official. The High Prosecutor's Office published this on its website. The case concerns the Brno-střed town hall and the allocation of city apartments.
Police officers from the National Center against Organized Crime (NCOZ) intervened in Brno on Tuesday. They detained eight people. According to aktualne.cz, one of them was the influential Brno ODS politician Otakar Bradáč.
The High Prosecutor's Office in Olomouc has not yet commented on whether the detainees have been released or not. "Regarding the ongoing actions of the criminal proceedings, it is not possible to comment on the other questions now. We will provide more detailed information as soon as the procedural situation allows," said senior prosecutor Radim Daňhel.
Monika Lukášová Spilková, the chairwoman of the control committee of the Brno-střed city hall, said already on Tuesday that she had long drawn attention to irregularities in the allocation of apartments, but also to strange shifts and subletting of apartments. For example, the apartments were given to family members of politicians or their acquaintances, who skipped other and longer waiting applicants.
In 2019, the so-called Stoka case surfaced in the Brno-střed district. The police then uncovered an organized group that included local politicians from the ANO movement, officials and businessmen. The group influenced public contracts at the town hall. The sentences were handed down in May this year. Former deputy mayor of Brno-střed Jiří Švachula received the highest prison sentence of 9.5 years. The court handed out punishments to eight other people and two companies.
