In June this year. Warsaw Chopin Airport checked in more than 2 million passengers in a single month for the first time in its history. The 28th of June was also a record-breaking month, with the highest number of passengers checked-in in a single 24-hour period - almost 75,000 people, the airport reported.

Chopin Airport checked in exactly 2,005,111 people in June, 10.5 per cent more than last year and more than 12 per cent more for June 2019, the period before the pandemic. This means that in the first six months of 2024, the capital's port checked in 9,738,175 people - more than 13% more than in the same period of 2019 and almost 17% more than last year, the airport announced.

During the first six months, the largest number of passengers travelled in traditional traffic - 6,035,655 people, although this is around 250,000 fewer than in 2019. The largest increase in passenger numbers relative to the pre-pandemic period was in the charter segment. 1,233,946 people travelled on charter flights this year, 47% more than in 2019. Low-cost flights were used by 2 463 110 people, an increase of nearly 68% compared to the first half of 2019, it was also reported.

"Checking in more than 2 million passengers in one month is a remarkable achievement for us, especially valuable as we celebrate the airport's 90th anniversary. These results show the tremendous role Chopin Airport plays and are a testament to the trust our passengers have in us and the result of the hard work of the entire airport team. Such tremendous growth is a source of pride, but also a commitment to further development, both in terms of the quality of service and in terms of our airport's capabilities. This is why our strategy, focused on modernisation and investment in state-of-the-art infrastructure, is so important today. We thank all passengers and business partners for their trust. There are further challenges and goals ahead of us, which we will pursue with determination," said PPL board member Adam Sanocki.

In June, 9,771 tonnes of cargo were cleared at the capital's port, bringing the year-to-date total to 53,540 tonnes, almost 3,500 more than the 2022 record, it was added.
