Anna Maria Żukowska, Chairwoman of the Left Club, announced that the Left party is pushing for the approval of a cheap rental housing programme by the Sejm this autumn, with the goal of starting construction next year. Żukowska emphasized that, in her view, the proposed “0% credit” will not be implemented.

“We want the housing project passed this autumn so that construction can begin next year. The government needs to secure funds for these constructions and ensure that the budget includes these allocations,” Żukowska stated in an interview with Polish Radio.

When asked about potential coalition agreements on housing policy, she expressed confidence, adding, “I think there will be no 0% credit, but instead a low-cost rental housing programme.”

Regarding the #naStart credit project, Żukowska clarified that the Left will not support it, stating, “No. The Civic Coalition, PSL, and Law and Justice would have to vote for it themselves, as Confederation is also against it.”

She also deemed the #naStart housing loan plan politically risky and unlikely to succeed.

Addressing the possibility of including a path to ownership in the low-cost rental housing plan, Żukowska firmly opposed the idea. “We don’t agree with spending public money to build something that would then be privatized,” she explained.

The #naStart loan bill, currently under discussion, proposes varying loan subsidies based on household size, with lower interest rates for larger families, including a 0% rate for families with three or more children. However, it faces opposition from several parties.
