In an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, the Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs developed a smartphone app that tracks people who are under a mandatory 14-day quarantine. The app uses geolocation and facial recognition allowing quarantined users to check-in with authorities to confirm they are staying at home as required. The app notifies police if users fail to respond within 20 minutes. People in quarantine have a choice between downloading the smartphone app or receiving unannounced visits from the police. The app is available in the iTunes app store. People under the mandatory 14-day quarantine period who break the isolation rules will face a fine of PLN 30,000.
