The first microdepot for last mile deliveries will be built under the Magistral road in downtown Prague on city-owned land near the Florenc metro station. Beginning in November, vans will bring goods for delivery to the location, where they will be transferred to electric delivery bicycles. The facility will be organized and operated by ekolo.cz which has experience with these types of bikes. It's part of a study being carried out by the city as it searches for ways to relieve congestion in the center and to reduce CO2 emissions. "The location has good transport access since it's located beneath the Magistral road, it has a lot of room and excellent connections to the center of the city," said Prague's deputy mayor Adam Scheinherr, who is in charge of transportation.
He said the idea is based on a similar program in Berlin. "Using electric bikes to solve the last mile gives Prague a chance to take its place among modern metropolises where this type of delivery is already common," said Jakub Ditrich, the director of ekolo.cz
