Morawiecki: We can vaccinate between 600-700 thousand people a day

Due to the availability of vaccines under the current vaccination system, even 600-700 thousand people can be vaccinated a day, informed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. He estimated that therefore the next wave of the pandemic will be significantly different from the previous ones and be less risky. He also expressed his belief that the school year that will begin soon will mean returning to schools for the entire year 2021/2022.

"This wave [the next wave of pandemic that experts forecast] will be fundamentally different from the previous ones. [...] It will differ in that we have a fully accessible vaccination system and we have vaccines available for virtually anyone, anywhere, anytime that someone may wish for as a place and moment of inoculation. And this fundamental difference means that today it is really necessary to look at all the risks that may come, this wave in a way that is surely slightly different from the one before," said Morawiecki during the Cabinet Council meeting.

He emphasized that in the past, the pandemic developed over a period of 2-3 weeks.

"We are aware that the number of cases may go into thousands, even in the worst scenarios [...] it may be several thousand. We also see even worse scenarios," he noted.

However, he drew attention to the full availability of vaccinations, access to 6 thousand hospital beds for COVID-19 patients and the possibility of creating new ones in a short time, a high percentage of vaccinated medical staff (from 90 to 99% in each category), teachers (from 70% to 80%) and the most vulnerable - i.e. over 60, especially 70 years of age.

The prime minister expressed the conviction that schools were well prepared for the starting school year, and students would return to schools for the entire year 2021/2022.

"There is a great deal of hope in me, coupled with this immunization system and vaccine availability, that this return to school will be a return to the entire 2021/2022 school year. I say this with an awareness of the unpredictability of COVID-19, there may be some new completely unknown mutations. If they do occur. one that the vaccines won't work for, then our decisions will likely have to be reviewed.But as long as we are in the current circumstances of COVID-19, the mutations that the vaccines work for, I think this return to school will be a permanent, very I strongly believe in it and I would like it to be so and there is a great chance that it would be so," he said.

So far, over 36.1 million vaccinations have been performed. The number of fully vaccinated people is over 18.7 million.
