Fear over the spread of coronavirus has forced Slovakia's government to announced new preventive measures to fight the infection. Large events have been banned beginning in October, including sporting events, while restaurants will have to limit the number of clients they have. The government appears to have decided to declare a state of emergency as of Wednesday after news that the number of new daily infections rose to more than 500 for the first time last week. "We regret the banning of public events," said Prime Minister Igor Matovic. "The situation in Slovakia is extremely serious. These measures will influence what happens over the next three or four weeks." Along with sporting events, cultural events, family gatherings, church gatherings and company events have also be banned. Weddings can go ahead but only those with negative Covid-19 tests that are at the most 12 hours old will be allowed to attend.
