Romania has officially begun the process for the construction of a new bridge over the Danube, further strengthening its cross-border connection with Bulgaria. The National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR) has submitted the necessary documentation to the National Agency for Public Procurement (ANAP) for validation, marking the first step toward building the second bridge between Giurgiu (Romania) and Ruse (Bulgaria).

Cristian Pistol, general director of CNAIR, announced the move and emphasized that the chosen designer will be responsible for identifying the best solution to connect the road and railway infrastructure of both countries. The new bridge will span 2 kilometers and is expected to play a crucial role in boosting economic development, not only for Romania and Bulgaria but also for the wider European region along the north-south axis.

The Giurgiu–Ruse II bridge, once completed, will feature both road and rail components, further enhancing transport links and economic integration between the two nations.
