The Czech Republic has not been included in a pilot project by Zalando, which will test the feasibility of offering the sale of second-hand clothes online. The program is already being tested in Germany and Spain, with plans to expand the test in October to Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Poland. Those selling clothes on the new market for old clothes won't have to pay anything for postage and anything they sell will be paid for in the form of Zalando gift cards. The commercial strategy behind this program is to strengthen its customer base, while helping find new owners for old clothes has obvious public relations benefits on the environmental front. "Demand for second-hand fashion is large and it's growing constantly, especially among members of Generation Y," said Zalando vice president Torben Hansen. "At the same time, customers lack a simple and reliable service that would enable them to sell things they're no longer wearing." It's not clear whether the Covid-19 situation in the Czech Republic led to its exclusion from the pilot program.
