Amazon has begun an aggressive hiring campaign in the Czech Republic in preparation for the holiday shopping season. Online sales have risen rapidly each Christmas for the past several years, but this year it's expected that the trend will intesify as a result of the pandemic. Amazon, which operates a distribution center in Dobrovize near the Prague airport, says the number of employees working there is set to double. At the moment, 3,000 people work at the center, but Amazon expects it will need another 3,000 seasonal workers to handle the increase in demand. Most of the jobs involve the completion of orders for customers, including accepting goods, stacking them and picking individual items. The company pays entry salaries of CZK 160 per hour, while team leaders can earn up to CZK 205. The daily Mlada fronta Dnes reports that in addition to the staff at its distribution center, Amazon employs another 1,000 people in its Prague headquarters in Prague 6.
