This year saw unprecedented demand for student accommodation, with bookings at West Gate Studios, Romania’s first private residential campus, filling up well before the start of the academic year. The rush began earlier than usual, with young people seeking housing as early as the summer months. Despite the increased capacity, all 1,700 spaces in the 850 studios and apartments were fully booked, leaving many students on the waiting list.

West Gate Studios, part of the Genesis Property portfolio founded by Liviu Tudor, has invested heavily to maintain and improve its accommodation standards. In 2024, the campus saw over €500,000 in upgrades, including new facilities to enhance student comfort. About €300,000 was allocated for projects like a multi-purpose sports field, a digital visitor tracking system, a 3D virtual tour of the campus, and upgrades to leisure and social spaces. Additionally, €250,000 was spent on refurbishing vacated rooms to original standards.

“The demand for accommodation this year has been extraordinary,” said Cristian Slave, General Manager of West Gate Studios. “Students are increasingly looking for vibrant communities where they can socialize, especially after the pandemic disrupted this aspect of life. At West Gate Studios, they find the modern amenities, comfort, and community they seek, with prices comparable to last year.”

The most in-demand units were the Junior Suite apartments, offering over 35 square meters of space, air-conditioned rooms with balconies, and private kitchenettes. Popular amenities include a modern library, study rooms, high-speed internet, a swimming pool, and a fitness center. Residents also appreciate the campus’s easy access to the subway and its commitment to sustainability.

Sustainability is a growing concern for students, according to Mihnea Tudor, Community Manager at West Gate Studios. “Young people today are passionate about environmental issues, and we are responding by organizing sustainability campaigns during the 2024-2025 academic year. These include electronics and clothing recycling drives, energy conservation initiatives, and waste reduction efforts. We’re also working to foster a close-knit community based on strong social values.”

In line with its sustainability goals, West Gate Studios has transitioned to 100% renewable energy for all campus buildings and is renegotiating waste management contracts to improve waste traceability. The campus also runs the “Community Spirit” program, which organizes social and educational events, and encourages residents to participate in campus management through volunteer programs.

To support students’ career development, West Gate Studios is resuming its career fair in partnership with tenants of West Gate Business Park and YUNITY Park, both owned by Genesis Property. The fair will offer students networking opportunities and potential job placements.

Since 2015, West Gate Studios has been part of the International Houses Worldwide (IHWW) network, which promotes a global mission of fostering community and international friendship among students from diverse cultures.
