Regional officials have begun preparations for the reconstruction of the main runway at the Leos Janacek airport in Mosnov, just outside the city of Ostrava. The runway will be reconstructed in parts, following the evaluation of a public tender in which price will the main (70%) criteria. Denik.cz writes that the runway is in bad shape and that a study carried out by the Moravia Silesia region found was supposed to determine whether to fix the existing runway or build a new one parallel to it. The reconstruction project is expected to cost CZK 2.26 billion, CZK 600 million less than the construction of a new one. The 3.5 kilometer runway was built in 1984.
