The Slovak construction sector recorded its strongest year-on-year performance since April 2024, with total construction production reaching EUR 436.1 million in January. This represented a 7.2% increase compared to the same period last year. The growth was primarily driven by the dynamic expansion of Slovak builders operating abroad, while domestic construction activity saw only moderate improvements.

Construction enterprises maintained higher year-on-year performance for the third consecutive month, with overall production also rising by 1.5% compared to December 2024. Within domestic construction, both new construction and repairs and maintenance recorded moderate growth of 1.6%. However, the “other construction works” category saw a significant decline of nearly one-third, though it remains a minor segment of the sector. Domestic construction accounted for 86% of total output.

A breakdown by construction type shows that building construction increased by 3% year-on-year. In contrast, work on engineering structures, including highway construction, continued its decline for the ninth consecutive month, decreasing by 7.4% in January.

The most significant boost to the sector came from Slovak construction enterprises working abroad, where output surged by more than 80% compared to the previous year. This international activity contributed to a growing share of total sector production, rising to 14%.

The combination of steady domestic activity and strong foreign demand provided a positive start for the construction sector in 2025, signaling continued resilience despite ongoing challenges in infrastructure-related projects.
