Daniel Băluță, the mayor of Sector 4, says that, together with the Giurgiu County Council, he has started work on the construction of an airport in the southern part of Bucharest.

"This is not a joke, but something as serious as possible.Together with the President of Giurgiu County Council, we have started the procedures for the construction of an airport in the southern part of Bucharest. It will be an international airport, both for passenger transport and with an important cargo component, as Otopeni Airport is currently outdated in this respect. We are doing all this because we want Bucharest to become a truly western city. Airy, green and, above all, properly connected with the rest of Europe," said Băluță.

Henri Coandă Airport (Otopeni), the largest in the country, had 12.5 million passengers last year, up 80 percent on the previous year, according to public data.
