WING completes Liberty Development in Budapest with contemporary art installation
WING has officially completed the Liberty development in Budapest, marking a significant milestone with the delivery of an additional 20,000 square meters of office space. The event also featured the unveiling of a contemporary art installation, the WING Lemniscate, between the Liberty building and the Telekom Campus.
Liberty, one of Hungary’s most modern and environmentally sustainable mixed-use complexes, is situated in the IX district of Budapest at the intersection of Könyves Kálmán körút and Albert Flórián út. The project’s second phase, the northern wing of the complex, was inaugurated during a special ceremony. This phase introduces additional office space, reinforcing Liberty’s status as a premier location for businesses. The development, which already houses office and hotel facilities, is now fully operational, offering a high-quality environment that meets BREEAM Excellent standards, runs on 100% green electricity, and has near-zero energy demand.
With nearly 80% of the office space already leased, Liberty continues to attract significant interest. The complex now boasts a comprehensive range of amenities, including the ibis & Tribe Budapest hotel, the Cloud IX rooftop bar, the TRIBE Table restaurant and café, and extensive conference facilities. Additional features, such as a rooftop terrace and sports courts, further enhance the tenant experience.
As part of the inauguration, WING unveiled the Lemniscate, an 8-meter wide and 4-meter high stainless steel sculpture created by artist Péter Szalay. Positioned between Liberty and the Telekom Campus, the sculpture’s curved form resembles a gateway, adding a dynamic and artistic element to the shared space. The Lemniscate’s design was inspired by the principles of lattice girders and the geometry of carbon nanostructures, symbolizing the infinity sign and energizing the surrounding environment.
WING has a long-standing commitment to integrating contemporary art into its developments, a tradition it continues with the Lemniscate. Over the past 25 years, the company has consistently supported the creation of artistic assets in its projects, aiming to inspire both the occupants of its properties and the broader community. The Lemniscate, embodying WING’s vision for a sustainable and successful future, is the latest example of this commitment.
“Liberty is one of WING’s iconic real estate developments, attracting both national and international companies,” said Noah Steinberg, CEO and Chairman of WING. He emphasized the importance of the development in transforming Népliget and its surroundings into a prestigious office submarket, offering a variety of services and green solutions in line with modern real estate trends.
Péter Szalay, the artist behind the Lemniscate, explained that the sculpture’s placement between the two buildings unifies the space through its geometry, creating an illusion of movement and energy. József Mélyi, curator of the WING Contemporary Art Programme, praised the collaboration between WING and contemporary visual artists, highlighting the significance of maintaining art’s presence in the built environment.
The construction of Liberty was supported by public funds under the Real Estate Fund sub-programme of the Baross Gábor Capital Programme, with co-investment from the Hungarian Development Bank. This support facilitated the creation of this energy-efficient green property, contributing to increased investment activity and the implementation of sustainable developments in Hungary.
